[EN] The general scope of this research is to analyze the utility of the social websites and their regulation as a tool in the fight against gender violence. The violence produced and denounced in those sites and the main characteristics of aggressors and victims are also object of special attention. The study describes the legal rules applicable to the social websites. Five hundred videos posted in Youtube are analyzed and classified according to the type of violence and the reactions involved. Those videos are a relevant sample, in terms of the social impact that they produced, in Brazil and Portugal. In effect, they have generated approximately five thousand comments of internauts and commentators and that very rich material is also object of study. The methodology is pluralistic, adapted to each case, qualitative methods, analysis of the plastic and oral discourse and functional analysis of laws being used along the study. The legal analysis focus mainly on the Directive nº 2012/29/UE, the Portuguese Law nº 112/2009 and the Brazilian Law nº 11340/2006.
The Wealth of Networks

The Wealth of Networks

Author: Yochai Benkler
Publisher: Yale University Press
ISBN: 0300125771
Pages: 515
Year: 2006
With the radical changes in information production that the Internet has introduced, we stand at an important moment of transition, says Yochai Benkler in this thought-provoking book. The phenomenon he describes as social production is reshaping markets, while at the same time offering new opportunities to enhance individual freedom, cultural diversity, political discourse, and justice. But these results are by no means inevitable: a systematic campaign to protect the entrenched industrial information economy of the last century threatens the promise of today’s emerging networked information environment. In this comprehensive social theory of the Internet and the networked information economy, Benkler describes how patterns of information, knowledge, and cultural production are changing--and shows that the way information and knowledge are made available can either limit or enlarge the ways people can create and express themselves. He describes the range of legal and policy choices that confront us and maintains that there is much to be gained--or lost--by the decisions we make today.

Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1316123375

Year: 2014-10-27
This book provides both students and scholars with a critical and historical introduction to the graphic novel. Jan Baetens and Hugo Frey explore this exciting form of visual and literary communication, showing readers how to situate and analyse graphic novels since their rise to prominence half a century ago. Several key questions are addressed: what is the graphic novel? How do we read graphic novels as narrative forms? Why is page design and publishing format so significant? What theories are developing to explain the genre? How is this form blurring the categories of high and popular literature? Why are graphic novelists nostalgic for the old comics? The authors address these and many other questions raised by the genre. Through their analysis of the works of many well-known graphic novelists - including Bechdel, Clowes, Spiegelman and Ware - Baetens and Frey offer significant insights for future teaching and research on the graphic novel.
