Unrelenting hero of The Summer of Dead Toys, Inspector Hector Salgado returns in another riveting crime thriller After a company retreat in a remote country house, senior employees of Alemany Cosmetics return with a dark secret. They’ve each received an anonymous, menacing email of only two words: “Never forget”. What’s worse, the message is accompanied by a nightmarish photo attachment showing the bodies of dogs—hung to death from a tree—near the very same farm estate they just visited. When they begin killing themselves, one by one, the connection between the shocking photos and the suicides baffles Barcelona law enforcement and corporate think tanks alike, threatening a terrifying end for everyone involved. Breaking through the insular power structures of these enigmatic executives isn't easy, but Inspector Salgado has his own ways of making those still alive speak up. As the clock is ticking before another suicide, Salgado is doing all he can to bring the terror to an end. Meanwhile, his partner Leire, bored on her maternity leave, remains fixated on Salgado’s missing wife, Ruth. She refuses to give up on a case many—including Salgado—fear is hopeless. Antonio Hill deftly braids these two stories together for a richly layered and darkly chilling thriller about secrets, cover-ups, and devastating lies. From the Hardcover edition.
Light-weight Experience Collection in Distributed Software Engineering

Light-weight Experience Collection in Distributed Software Engineering

Author: Anna Averbakh

Pages: 261
Year: 2015-02-10
Nowadays, distributed software development has become more common. In a distributed project setting, managing experience is even more crucial than in a co-located project. Problems like ineffective communication, lack of awareness and trust and restrictive information flow policies impede experience exchange and raise the overall effort for software engineers to collaborate. Moreover, sharing experiences is usually not part of the development process and considered additional effort. This often leads to failure of the experience management initiative due to a lack of participation. This thesis proposes a framework for qualitative and quantitative assessment of light-weight experience collection. Light-weight methods primarily aim at lowering the perceived effort and return a reasonable benefit to the experience bearers. This thesis proposes characterizing criteria of light-weight experience collection and a measurement system to measure gradations of expected effort and benefit of an experience collection method. To support knowledge managers in choosing the appropriate collection method, this thesis provides a catalogue of strategies from different categories and areas of application in distributed development projects.

Towards the Multilingual Semantic Web

Towards the Multilingual Semantic Web

Author: Paul Buitelaar, Philipp Cimiano
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3662435853
Pages: 333
Year: 2014-11-13
To date, the relation between multilingualism and the Semantic Web has not yet received enough attention in the research community. One major challenge for the Semantic Web community is to develop architectures, frameworks and systems that can help in overcoming national and language barriers, facilitating equal access to information produced in different cultures and languages. As such, this volume aims at documenting the state-of-the-art with regard to the vision of a Multilingual Semantic Web, in which semantic information will be accessible in and across multiple languages. The Multilingual Semantic Web as envisioned in this volume will support the following functionalities: (1) responding to information needs in any language with regard to semantically structured data available on the Semantic Web and Linked Open Data (LOD) cloud, (2) verbalizing and accessing semantically structured data, ontologies or other conceptualizations in multiple languages, (3) harmonizing, integrating, aggregating, comparing and repurposing semantically structured data across languages and (4) aligning and reconciling ontologies or other conceptualizations across languages. The volume is divided into three main sections: Principles, Methods and Applications. The section on “Principles” discusses models, architectures and methodologies that enrich the current Semantic Web architecture with features necessary to handle multiple languages. The section on “Methods” describes algorithms and approaches for solving key issues related to the construction of the Multilingual Semantic Web. The section on “Applications” describes the use of Multilingual Semantic Web based approaches in the context of several application domains. This volume is essential reading for all academic and industrial researchers who want to embark on this new research field at the intersection of various research topics, including the Semantic Web, Linked Data, natural language processing, computational linguistics, terminology and information retrieval. It will also be of great interest to practitioners who are interested in re-examining their existing infrastructure and methodologies for handling multiple languages in Web applications or information retrieval systems.
