Conflict and Multimodal Communication

Conflict and Multimodal Communication

This book explores the use of technology to detect, predict and understand social cues, in order to analyze and prevent conflict. Traditional human sciences approaches are enriched with the latest developments in Social Signal Processing aimed at an automatic understanding of conflict and negotiation. Communication—both verbal and non-verbal, within the context of a conflict—is studied with the aim of promoting the use of intelligent machines that automatically measure and understand the escalation of conflict, and are able to manage it, in order to support the negotiation process. Particular attention is paid to the integration of human sciences findings with computational approaches, from the application of correct methodologies for the collection of valid data to the development of computational approaches inspired by research on verbal and multimodal communication. In the words of the trade unionist Pierre Carniti, "We should reevaluate conflict, since without conflict there is no social justice." With this in mind, this volume does not approach conflict simply as an obstacle to be overcome, but as a concept to be fully analyzed. The philosophical, linguistic and psychological aspects of conflict, once understood, can be used to promote conflict management as a means for change and social justice.

Accounting Information Systems for Decision Making

Accounting Information Systems for Decision Making

Author: Daniela Mancini, Eddy H. J. Vaassen, Renata Paola Dameri
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 364235761X
Pages: 355

This book contains a collection of research papers on accounting information systems including their strategic role in decision processes, within and between companies. An accounting system is a complex system composed of a mix of strictly interrelated elements such as data, information, human resources, IT tool, accounting models and procedures. Accounting information systems are often considered the instrument by default for accounting automation. This book aims to sketch a clear picture of the current state of AIS research, including design, acceptance and reliance, value-added decision making, interorganizational links, and process improvements. The contributions in this volume emphasize that AIS has grown into a powerful strategic tool. The book provides evidence for this observation by examining a wide range of current issues ranging from theory development in AIS to practical applications of accounting information systems. In particular it focuses on themes of growing interest in the realm of XBRL and Financial Reporting, Management Information Systems, IT/IS Audit and IT/IS Compliance. The book will be of interest to financial and managerial accountants and IT/IS practitioners, including information systems managers and consultants.

Lepton Physics at CERN and Frascati

Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9810220782
Pages: 379
Year: 1994
This reprint volume is in honour of one of the leaders of Italian high-energy physics, Antonino Zichichi, who is now 65 years old. It covers the first part of his activity: the years 1959-1976, probably the most intense of his scientific career. The volume includes reprints of articles and of some published laboratory reports, documenting the extraordinary constancy of Zichichi in a scientific programme which spanned more than a decade and laid the foundations for the subsequent discovery by M Perl of the heavy lepton, HL (now called ç), first proposed and searched for at CERN and Frascati by Zichichi in the early sixties.

Abraham Lincoln's election was favorably influenced by the influx of German revolutionaries who fled Europe after the failed revolutions of 1848. Then, his agenda to establish a central government with unlimited political power caused the American Civil War. This fascinating book puts forth these arguments and also explores how, after the war, the legality of secession was viewed.
